Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in select Philadelphia zip codes can open accounts. In addition, Sb1 was chartered as a "SEG" based credit union, meaning organizations can also offer our services as a benefit to their employees.
You can also open accounts if you're related to an existing member.
Once you open an account, you can keep it open for life.
Even if you leave the company or organization (or family) that provided you the chance to join Sb1, your membership remains.
How do I know if I'm eligible to open accounts?
If you live, work, worship or attend school in select Philadelphia zip codes you're eligible.
Employees & retirees of our many Select Employer Groups (SEGs) are also eligible along with their respective family members:
Eligible family members include:
Parents
Siblings
Grandparents
Spouses
Children
Grandchildren
Stepparents
Stepchildren
Stepsibling
Household members are also eligible:
All members of your household (persons living under your roof) can now become Credit Union members as well! That means any person sharing a residence as part of a single-family unit, including domestic employees and others who live together as part of a family unit. An individual may be considered to be living in the same household although he or she is temporarily absent from the residence, such as children in college or the military.
Q: Can I open accounts if a relative is eligible to open accounts as a primary member but has not yet themselves?
Yes. If you are related in one of the ways listed above to someone who has access to open accounts themselves, you are eligible to open Sb1 accounts for yourself (even if your relative hasn't yet).
